Flour Sack Towels to Insert tutorial - Boy Fold.

Flour Sack Towels (FSTs) are awesome. Hands down. They are super cheap, pretty thin, and also really absorbent. The worst thing about them is that you have to fold them, which is a bunch of steps that arent really needed. So I'll show you how to fold them, then sew them to be able to stuff them in pockets, or use in a cover.

You can fold them in a regular pad fold, or do a boy / girl fold. I dont have a tutorial for a girl fold, unfortunately, since I dont have a girl.

This is for the boy fold.

1. (This step is *totally* optional.... I've done with and without seams... without sews a lot easier.) Take scissors and sew the thicker seams off. They are usually the ones with the tags on it, and the one across from it.

2. After straightening up your fst, fold it in half, 'hot dog' style.

3. Fold the top down about 2 inches.

4. Bring the bottom up to meet right under the top fold.

5. Fold side into your desired width.

6. Bring your small, left over edge down and hold it. This is where you will be sewing to hold your insert shut.

6. Start sewing. I usually put the edge of the small edge to the side of my sewing foot. Take your time, as your machine might have a hard time handling that many layers of fabric. Be sure to back stitch at the beginning and end. If your machine skipped some stitches, you can always go back and do another row of stitches on top of what you just did.

7. Finished picture of first side of stitching. If you want, you can stop here! I usually add another row on the other side, just to make sure the layers dont get all wonky.

8. Sew another line down the opposite side of your first line. It doesnt have to be perfect. Again, remember to back stitch at the beginning and end of the row.

9. All finished! Trim any loose threads, and your good to go! Enjoy your FSTs with no folding!
